Designing Restaurant Uniforms

If you own or manage a restaurant, you want to do all you can to present a professional appearance to your customers. Your restaurant should look inviting and clean the second a potential diner steps inside. One of the best ways invite people to enjoy a fabulous meal with the use of uniforms. Designing a professional uniform to be used in your restaurant has many advantages. Restaurant uniforms help your diners immediately identify staff members. They also make it easy for your employees to have something they can wear every single work day without the need to maintain a professional wardrobe. You get to choose what they wear. You don’t have to worry they will show up wearing something inappropriate and force you to send them home and thus losing valuable work time. When designing a uniform for your restaurant, you’ll want to take multiple factors into account including the type of food served as well as the fabric and colors used in the restaurant location.

Restaurants vary in type. Whether you own a small pizzeria or manage a world famous four star restaurant, you’ll want to make sure you have the right uniforms for your restaurant. In any restaurant, the primary job is to serve food. You want restaurant uniforms that make that task easy on your staffers and enjoyable for your diners.  Ideally, any uniform should help set a scene and remind customers of the delicious food they are going to eat. To that end, think about the cuisine you are serving. For example, if you own a French restaurant, you’ll want to help diners bring to mind scenes of beautiful Paris and sophisticated food. Look for ways to suggest this via tailoring and the use of subtle, gallic inspired details like French collars and cuffs.

Fabric and Color

Two other important elements of any uniform style are the fabric and the color. You want fabric that wears well over time and does not show stains. You also want fabric that allows your servers to move freely and avoids locking in unwanted sweat and odor. Any uniform should also be easy to clean. This way, a splash of tomato soup during service can be mopped up and the uniform ready to wear again quickly, Color is also important when it comes to a restaurant uniform design. You want colors that will work well with the colors of the decor in the restaurant. Think about the lighting and seating. Understated colors like grey and white are ideal for upscale restaurants where the aim is efficient and unobtrusive service. In a more casual setting, you can opt for brighter colors like red and orange.
