What to Pack for a Marathon Weekend

What to Pack for a Marathon Weekend

If you are planning to travel for a marathon weekend, how you pack may greatly determine how well you perform. You need to have all the right things for the race; otherwise, you will be all over the place instead of focusing on the marathon ahead. It is a good idea to have a packing list especially if you are a heavy packer. However, if you pack light, then there are a few items that must be in your back. Here is a list of four essentials for a marathon weekend.

Reusable Water Bottle

It is important to hydrate well before, during and after the marathon. Buying water is not a viable option, so it is better to have a reusable water bottle. You can always refill it with clean water wherever you are so that you can hydrate.

Sunscreen

You don’t want to get sunburns when you are running, and that is why you need some good sunscreen. Ensure that it has an SPF of at least 30 and it is water based. That ensures that it won’t make your skin feel heavy when running which can be uncomfortable.

Extra Set of Running Clothes

If you don’t want large luggage you may be tempted to carry one set of running clothes, but that is a bad idea. You may decide to do some light training before the actual day. Ensure that you have at least two of each just in case to avoid any issues on the marathon day.

Nipple Covers for Running

Nipple covers are essential if you don’t want chaffed nipples. Look for the best pasties for runners before traveling so that you can try them out and see how well they fare. They should stay on through all the sweating and friction to protect your nipples.

GPS/Running Watch

If you forgot your watch, then it will likely affect your running, so it is crucial that you carry it. Since it is small you can easily leave it so instead of packing it in your bag, wear it, so it is on your arm throughout.

Sunglasses/Visor

If you are expecting a hot day, then sunglasses are a must for the protection of your eyes. A visor also shields you from the burning sun which may also affect how well you run during the marathon.

Running Shoes

Carry the running shoes that you trained in since that ensures that your performance isn’t affected. Ensure that they are in excellent condition so as not to get any surprises on the big day. If possible instead of carrying them, wear them so just in case you lose your luggage, they are irreplaceable.

Be careful with your luggage when you travel since if you lose it, that may mess up your trip. One more thing that you should include in your luggage is a complete first aid box. It will help you to take care of any minor injuries personally. Remember to rest as it will also help you be ready for your marathon weekend.
